View Full Version : Lil Bro Blew A Rear Brake Seal On His RM80. Anyone Have Experience?

Little brother had no pressure in the rear brakes at all so I was helping him bleed them. Started bleeding... only the fluid wasn't coming out of the bleed valve. That's when I noticed the seal around the rear brake piston popped out a little somehow. Only work I've ever done brake-wise to my CR250 was replacing the rear brake pads and replacing the rear wheel and brake disc. I've never taken apart the caliper itself.

Is it difficult to do? Do you need any special tools?

Thanks
Ross

Yeah it's not that hard to rebulid calipers you just need time and a good place to work. Take the caliper off of the bike and remove the pads and pins. Then remove the caliper housing bolts and seperate the two caliper halves and remove all the o rings. Blow the piston out with an air gun and remove the dust seals. Wash all the caliper components in brake fluid. Don't use water or cleaning products and don't wipe off the parts once they've been cleaned !!!!. After that replace all the seals and o rings with new ones. Put everything back together and remount it onto the bike.

WHAT!!!!! HELL NO. Never split the caliper in half. The only thing I can agree with is popping the piston out with an air gun. Remove the caliper assy, and blow threw the brake line hose hole. If you don't have an air compressor, come by and see me. I'll do it for you, clean it, and put it back together. It doesn't take long at all.

Westcoast motorsports on Boyscout. Tell'em you want to talk to B-Rad.

Sorry im not trying to give bad information. Not sure what kind of caliper's are on an rm80. I've rebuilt mine twice successfully and both times I've followed the official Suzuki Factory Service Manual. The directions I posted were straight from Suzuki. On dual piston tokico's you have to seperate the caliper halves to do a rebuild. Your best bet is to get the factory service manual for your bike cause an RM 80 probably isnt the same as a Gixxer 6. I've only worked on sport bikes so it could be diffrent for dirt bikes. But your best bet if you're unsure is to take your bike in. But I would recommend superbikes and ski off of fowler over westcoast cause in my personal opinion the quality of service is better and the labor is way cheaper. But thats just my two cents.

Yeah, I've searched around for manuals online but its a 93 I believe so there isn't anything online for it. I'd have to go buy a paper one. Problem is, I'm not very mechanically inclined lol. My dad won some general automotive mechanics award in high school for having the highest scores out of everyone in ohio... but that was waaaaaay back when. So other than some general knowledge that my dad has, my family is not very motorsports-oriented.

Everything I've done on my SRT, on the CR250, on the gsxr600, on the r6 was all from reading online and messing with shit because I couldn't afford to pay someone to do it for me lol.

If I can borrow my buddy's truck, I'll bring it in to westcoast.

The labor is cheaper cause you got a pot head doing the work. Besides, they don't care about making a profit, as long as Steve can pay the companies bills, that's all.
